Louisiana schools show major improvement in recent rankings by U.S. New & World Report.

Louisiana moved up five spots, from 46th to 41st. Louisiana Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley knows it is not a great ranking, but the improvement is a good sign:

"We’re happy to see that movement. It’s a testament to the work taking place that’s the right work to get better outcomes but obviously, we still have a long way to go," said Brumley.

From 2019-2023 the state’s high school graduation rank improved eight spots from 45th to 37th. The state also moved forward six places in math, from 50th to 44th. Brumley says reading scores improved dramatically.

"One of the highlights would be reading scores," he said, "where we improved ten places from 48th in the country to 38th over just the last couple of years."

New Mexico comes in last in the rankings. New Jersey in number one.
