Louisiana Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser in speaking to WWL’s own Tommy Tucker says he’s been busy showing off the best the state has to offer to out-of-towners who are here for the big game. “I’ve been doing a lot of interviews all over the world talking about Louisiana, our seafood, Mardi Gras … it’s a great opportunity for our state,” Nungesser enthused. "Our locals are so genuine and friendly. They want to embrace people and make their day a little better and that happens throughout Louisiana. You ask someone for directions in New York City, they’ll probably ignore you. We love people here in this state,” adds Nungesser.
The Lt. Governor says his aim was to emphasize not just New Orleans itself, but all of Louisiana in the Morial Convention Center where events are being held around the Super Bowl. “We have a booth set up in the lobby showing information about all of Louisiana. Using it basically to say, ‘next time you come, maybe try Lafayette or Natchitoches. It’s so important that we spread the word that New Orleans is surely the draw, but we want people to know there’s more to the state than just New Orleans,” adds Nungesser.
Locals were a part of the entire process, Nungesser is quick to point out. “It’s been a great team effort here. The thing I’m most proud of from all week is our people. From the bartenders to the maids, everyone here has a passion for people. The food and the events are all great, but what keeps people coming back are our people,” adds the Lt. Governor. “There are 400 fairs and festivals in this state. If you can eat it, drink it, shoot it, or dance to it, then we’ll name a festival after it! We have that tool in our toolbox that nobody else has … to promote the Strawberry Fest, Boudin Fest, Seafood Fest, etc … people already come from all over the world for these events,” Nungesser goes on to say.
