Were you feeling lucky in November? Quite a few Louisianians were, according to the latest sports betting revenue numbers.
Those revenues topped $6 million, the highest total since sports betting companies were given the legal go-ahead last year.
College football was a major driver with three of the state’s most high-profile programs – LSU, Southern University and Tulane – qualifying for conference championship games.
The new numbers were released at Thursday’s Gaming Control Board meeting.
Digging further into the numbers, daily fantasy sports and retail sports books were both profitable in November. Mobile sports book operators did suffer a net loss of more than $27 million, but that can be mostly attributed to the historic $75 million payout to “Mattress Mack” McIngvale after his $10 million bet on the Houston Astros in the World Series came to fruition.
Initial sports gambling revenue estimates for 2022 had been $30 million, but with one month remaining in the year, Louisiana has already generated over $36 million.
25% of that revenue is to be set aside for funding early childhood education. Another 10% is paid out to local governments. The remaining 65% is earmarked for gambling addiction programs, among other projects.
