In a weekly survey conducted by pharmacy franchise Walgreens, Louisiana was named the state with the most current flu activity in America.

The drugstore chain began publishing the 2022-2023 Walgreens Flu Index, compiled on a weekly basis, to help local areas keep track of outbreaks nearby.

The index shows that overall flu activity nationwide is already 10 times greater than 2021.

Louisiana led the nation in flu activity for the week of October 10, but it seems to be running rampant in the south in general. Mississippi ranks second on the list, followed by Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas and South Carolina at numbers 2-8.

Puerto Rico and North Carolina round out the top 10.

Additionally, New Orleans ranked fifth among all major cities in terms of flu activity.

The 2022 edition of the annual flu shot is available at most pharmacies and medical facilities for those who wish to get inoculated.
