LSU Freshman John Foster was the runner-up on American Idol, which was a big deal for the people of Louisiana, given that he hails from the West Baton Rouge Parish town of Addis.
The 18-year-old competed in the top three Sunday night against 27-year-old Jamal Roberts of Meridian, MS, and 35-year-old Breanna Nix of Denton, TX.
Nix was sent home shortly after 8:00pm.
Foster and Roberts then faced off for the title. With Robert's winning the most votes via text, app and the American Idol website.
For those unfamiliar with Foster, his website calls him a "Nashville recording artist from Addis, Louisiana."
If you're a fan of country music, he's worth checking out because many of his performances on American Idol have been country songs. Even his performances of Disney classics like "The Bare Necessities" have a classic country flair.
"His style can be described as Neo-Traditional, influenced by musicians like George Strait, Merle Haggard, Keith Whitley, and Willie Nelson," says Foster's website. "John has enjoyed performing with many notable musicians, including Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider, Doug Stone, and Louisiana musicians Don Rich, Junior Lacrosse, Ryan Foret, and Floyd Brown."
Foster graduated as valedictorian of his class at Brusly High School.
