As artificial intelligence becomes more integrated into daily life for average people, plenty are wondering if the technology is friend or foe. That’s especially true when it comes to the job market. Andrew Schwarz is Professor of IT at the E.J. Ourso College of Business at LSU and he says, to truly remain relevant in the job market, employees need to integrate AI into their own work as a tool rather than fearing being replaced by it.

Artificial intelligence has been around as a concept since the 1940’s, but has truly come into its heyday in recent years as it’s being increasingly used in the everyday lives of regular people. The tech has become a necessity for many jobs already and many ordinary people are concerned about when AI will possibly make their employment a thing of the past. “Right now, we’re seeing a broad-based adoption across multiple industries. We think all industries will be affected by (AI) in some way,” Schwarz emphasizes.

However, he believes that by working hand-in-hand with the tech, productivity will increase and AI will be seen more as a vital tool than a replacement for human work and ingenuity. “All of a sudden, the organization starts to see the benefits and all the conversations around AI start to change. Now, it’s not this thing that’s going to take jobs away. It’s an aid to make you more efficient,” the LSU professor went on to add.

The LSU AI Day will be held on Friday March 20th and will feature speakers from Silicon Valley and workshops for those interested. Registration is available until March 15th at LSU's website. While last year’s symposium was more of an introduction to AI, this year’s focus will be on talking about using artificial intelligence in practice. Schwarz hopes this approach will make the technology seem less adversarial and help attendees increase their own productivity regardless of the field they’re in.
