Today, New Orleans has two mayors leading the city. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell proudly introduced Mr. Christian Hodges as the city's 'Mayor for a Day’.

Mr. Hodges is a 6th grader from Lusher Charter School and the winner of this year's Mayor for a Day’ essay contest in the 11-13 age group.

Mayor Hodges describes himself as self-confident, funny, and outgoing. He enjoys playing soccer, traveling with his family, and playing video games on the weekend. He also has three pets; a Labrador named Bacchus, a Bearded Dragon named Geico, and a fish named Ocean.

“During my time as mayor, I will focus on making healthy food options for kids in schools and in their daily lives to promote a healthy lifestyle,” said Mayor Hodges. “I will work tirelessly to improve air quality by reducing pollution and planting and caring for trees. My office will also require recycling programs to slowly reduce the use of plastic bags in stores and add recycling bins in public areas in the city, so we can show our citizens the benefits of going green.”

Mayor Hodges has a full day ahead of him. As ‘Mayor for a Day’ he will join Mayor Cantrell in a Sewerage and Water board meeting aimed at creating a $20 million state-funded power plan for the S&WB and the city of New Orleans.
