New Orleans police and the Orleans Parish coroner are investigating a fatal shooting in the 2600 block of A.P. Tureaud Ave.
It happened about a block away from St. Augustine High School.
Police say around 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, officers were sent to investigate a call of a man shot in that location.
"Officers found a male victim on the ground who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound," said Sgt. Barry Fletcher.
Later in the morning, police said they changed the signal on the case from "homicide" to "unclassified death." An NOPD spokesperson said the coroner's office will release a cause of death following an autopsy.
Police say anyone who has information should call NOPD Homicide at (504) 658-5300, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or toll free at (877) 903-7867 (STOP).
Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their names and may be eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
