A Washington Parish man is facing mutiple charges after state authorities say he started a massive wildfire that destroyed nearly 200 acres of land and several buildings.
According to Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, Kenneth Beaubouef started a campfire Thursday night at a campsite off Firetower Road near Mount Herman. Beauboeuf allegedly left the fire unattended Friday morning. Strain says that fire then spread into a nearby wooded area. That blaze continued to spread, damaging timber, buidlings, and other property in the area.
Authorities contained the fire by Friday night.
Beauboeuf is facing criminal negligence and burn ban violation charges.
