New Orleans fire and police investigators are looking into the death of a man whose body was found in a burning Gentilly shed on Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to a house fire call near the corner of Frenchman and Selma Streets around 5 p.m. When they arrived, firefighters discovered that the blaze began at a neighboring shed, which was engulfed in flames. When firefighters began their postfire protocols, they found the victim's body on the shed's floor.
Neighbors told investigators that a man often took residence inside the shed. However, authorities say the man's body was so badly burned that they have not yet been able to identify him.
The duplex to which the fire spread sustained exterior wall damage. A second shed on another neighboring property suffered significant damage after the fire spread to it.
The case remains under investigation.
