A pedestrian is dead after a crash on Tulane Avenue.

New Orleans Police say it happened Wednesday night.

"At about 7:53 p.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash," according to a news release. "New Orleans EMS arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased."

Cops say the dead man was crossing Tulane Avenue, when one driver slammed on the brakes... but a second motorist apparently didn't see the pedestrian.

"NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit investigators determined that the victim was walking lakebound across Tulane Avenue when a Toyota Camry came to a stop in front of the victim. An oncoming Ford Explorer attempted to change lanes to pass the Camry and struck the victim."

There were no initial charges.

"The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with investigators in the incident."
