The man found beaten to death in his hotel room on St. Charles Ave. was 73-year-old David Sorensen, a visitor from Missouri.
The Orleans Parish Coroner released the victim's identity today.
The coroner's office determined Sorensen died of blunt force injuries.
One suspect is in custody.
Officers responded to a call in the 2100 block of St. Charles Avenue just before 11 p.m. Thursday. When the officers arrived, they found the unresponsive victim in his hotel room at the Avenue Plaza. An EMS crew took the victim to the hospital where he later died.
Cops also found 29-year-old Martin Hurtado in the room. Police say security video showed Hurtado going down the sixth-floor hallway, knocking on doors until he gained access to Sorensen's room. Sorensen's wife ran for help.
Police say Hurtado beat Sorensen with his fists. Sorensen was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to WWL-TV, the police report says Hurtado told officers the last thing he remembered was drinking at Tacos and Beer, a St. Charles Ave. restaurant where he worked, "but he could not remember anything after that."
