A man was reportedly lying in the road near McDonogh 35 High School was struck and by a car and died.
It happened shortly after 4:30 am Wednesday morning at the intersection of Cadillac and Senate streets.
An NOPD report says "At around 4:36 a.m., Third District officers responded to a traffic accident involving a 2009 GMC and a pedestrian at the location. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the vehicle was traveling westbound on Senate Street, then made a right turn onto Cadillac Street when it ran over a 54-year-old male who was for reasons unknown was lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene."
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the police.
