New Orleans Police are looking for clues after gunfire overnight near Esplanade and Decatur. It happened at the Checkpoint Charlie bar.
"The NOPD is investigating a AGGRAVATED BATTERY BY SHOOTING in the 500 Blk of Esplanade ave.," Public Information Officer James Roberson said in an email. "Initial reports show at least one black male victim with at least one gunshot wound to the body."
He says EMS took the victim to the hospital.
It happened around 3:30am.
Witnesses say the shooter had been in a fight with patrons at the bar and left, but returned on a motorcycle and shot one of the people he had been arguing with.
An initial police report says a suspect has been arrested.
"The suspect then fled to his residence in Arabi and was taken into custody by St Bernard Sheriff officers."
The alleged shooter is identified as 35-year-old Clinton Sweat.
