St. Bernard Parish double murder suspect caught in Mobile

St. Bernard Parish double murder suspect caught in Mobile
St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office

The man accused of shooting and killing his mother and grandmother in a St. Bernard Parish home on Easter night is now in custody in Alabama.

St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlman says Mobile police arrested Lee Collins, III, on Monday night, nearly 24 hours after Pohlman's investigators say Collins murdered his relatives inside a home on Centanni Drive.

Paramedics took the victims to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

According to Pohlman, Collins ran away from the house and stole a Ford stake-bed truck, driving that truck to Mississippi before abandoning it. Pohlman says police in Bay Minette, Mississippi, found the truck and took it into custody.

Collins remains in the Mobile jail while he awaits extradition to Louisiana. When he returns to St. Bernard Parish, Collins will be booked into jail on two counts of second-degree murder.

The case remains under investigation.
