Sleep may be free but for many, it’s a luxury they can’t seem to get enough of. A new survey by SleepJunkie asked more than 3,000 adults how much they would pay for a guaranteed night of perfect sleep.
The results? Plaquemines Parish tops the statewide list, with residents willing to spend an average of $123.19 for one night of uninterrupted rest.
St. Tammany follows closely at $119.76, with Cameron ($118.40), Ascension ($116.68), and Livingston ($114.94) rounding out the top five.
Statewide, Louisiana residents say they’d pay $109.90 on average but beyond the price tag, the data reveals a deep sleep deficit.
Most respondents say they wake up feeling fully rested only three nights a week. Anxiety, physical discomfort, late-night screen time, and financial stress are the top culprits keeping people awake.
The poll also found:
53% would take a 5% pay cut to sleep perfectly every night for a year.
46% would trade their next vacation for a week of uninterrupted sleep.
Nearly half say they’ve cried from exhaustion.
“Sleep has become a luxury item and for millions, it’s one they can’t afford to lose,” says Kristina Hindes of SleepJunkie. “When we sleep better, we live better.”
