Louisiana musician Marc Broussard ended his performance early at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival due to a health issue, he shared in a video on social media.
The Lafayette-born singer said he started feeling ill on the way to the festival, and his condition worsened once he got on stage Friday.
After performing a few songs, Broussard said he became concerned he could be experiencing a heart attack.
In a video shared online, Broussard recalled turning to his drummer during the performance and saying, “This might be the last song I ever sing.”
He left the stage shortly after and was checked out by paramedics behind the scenes, who determined the issue wasn’t heart-related but rather severe dehydration.
“I was extremely dehydrated and honestly felt like I might collapse in front of 20,000 people,” he said. “It was a tough day. I’m sorry to anyone disappointed by the shortened set, but I genuinely don’t think I could’ve made it through a couple more songs.” Broussard thanked fans for their support and promised to make it up to them.
He said he received IV fluids and was feeling much better soon after, even driving himself home later that day. Fortunately, he appears to be in good health following the scare.
