New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says she is not ready to lift the mask mandate in New Orleans.
She says for that to happen more people need to get COVID vaccinations.
In the city nearly 43 percent have started the process and almost 36 percent have completed their vaccinations.
The mayor did announce that beginning Friday the city will allow 100 percent capacity of businesses to be open... including restaurants and retail outlets as long as people wear masks and practice social distancing.
As for event capacity, Cantrell says New Orleans will allow outdoor events to have 500 people and indoor events 250. She says that is with continued masking and social distancing.
The mayor also stressed that in order for Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest and other events to happen in the fall, more people must get vaccinated.
As for sporting events, concerts and other large events; the restrictions continue at 50% outside and 25% indoors.
