New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell made her run for a second term official on Wednesday.
“Pandemics leave room for major changes - we have 3-5 years to become the best city in the United States, and tackle infrastructure, equity, and public safety challenges. If we stop our progress now, we’ll be right back where we started,” Cantrell said in a social media post.
Cantrell is not alone, several other candidates also qualified Wednesday for the mayoral race according to the Secretary of State’s website.
Qualifying for a number of other positions are up for grabs, including several New Orleans City Council seats are also on the October 9 Primary including two Councilmember-at-Large seats in Divisions 1 and 2.
Other positions in Orleans Parish available include Sheriff, Clerk of Civil and Criminal Courts, Assessor, and Coroner.
