New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell's office today announced the mayor is making another overseas trip. Cantrell is traveling to Amsterdam, The Netherlands, to attend the Bloomberg CityLab Conference and Mayors Innovation Studio, running from October 9 - 11.
"It is an honor and a privilege to be invited to join my brother and sister mayors from around the world, as well as other prominent city innovators, business leaders, urban experts and activists to explore the shared hurdles and possibilities faced by cities and around the world and create better solutions and opportunities for our people and communities to thrive," said Cantrell.
Cantrell's travels abroad have brought her criticism. She canceled a trip to an environmental conference in Singapore last summer and instead went on a listening tour of New Orleans Police districts as crime mounted and dissatisfied officers left the force.
The mayor was also roundly criticized for upgrading her seats on overseas flights to first class, charging them to the city. Only recently she acknowledged that she must repay the cost of those upgrades to the city, as per city policy.
The mayor will return to the city October 11.
