New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno has signed an executive order to make it easier for the city to hire people.
Moreno told WWL's Newell Normand on Tuesday afternoon that her administration was frustrated trying to hire new public works employees to fix the city's broken streets.
"There are like 17 different steps that have to happen, and they don't happen in parallel: they happen one after the other after the other after the other to try to onboard people," the mayor told Newell.
Moreno said her order creates "hiring Process Improvement task Force" to do away with the unnecessary steps, and aims to get the necessary steps to happen concurrently, to save time and get new employees working for the people of New Orleans faster.
"It's about eliminating those precesses that are not necessary, and then processes that are necessary, how do we run them in parallel?" she said.
