New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says she will virtually participate in the C40 World Mayors Summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina this week.

"On Thursday, Oct. 20, Mayor Cantrell will virtually join a panel discussion titled 'Developing Green and Thriving Neighborhoods,'" the mayor's office announced today. "During this panel, she will highlight the City’s Gentilly Resilience District, a pilot project that includes integrated green infrastructure and recreational improvements in several key facilities of the Gentilly community, such as schools and playgrounds."

Friday, the mayor plans to take part in a panel discussion titled "Rising Local Ambition for Climate Change: How Can Cities and Businesses Work in Partnership to Accelerate Climate Action." Cantrell's office says the mayor will highlight the "Solar For All NOLA" program.

"This program delivers on achieving our climate action goals, has created several quality jobs and is making New Orleans a more climate-resilient City," said the mayor's office. "Since 2019, Solar for All NOLA lease customers saved more than $5.3 million annually, averaging about $800 per customer, due to rooftop solar and energy efficiency."

A mayor's office spokesperson initially said the mayor would attend the conference in person, according to NOLA.com. No reason was given for Tuesday's announcement that Cantrell would participate virtually.
