Leaders in the effort to convince voters to recall New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell deliver an update later today, about progress, and what they say are attempts to hinder them.
Recall co-chair Eileen Carter says they had to cancel an event last week at a local business in the hospitality industry.
"Once they posted it on their page that they were having an event and that we were invited, their landlord then issued them a five-day eviction notice," said Carter, which she found too coincidental.
"We had to deal with some legalities there," said Carter. "I did put in a call with the Secretary of State that morning."
Carter says the business owner quickly brought in his attorney, as well.
Carter believes it was retaliation from supporters of Cantrell, and she says it fits a pattern she's heard from other recall supporters.
"This retaliation is very real," she said.
"We had a group of volunteers who were at Nashville and Claiborne" last week, Carter said. "We had a mayor-supporter come out and steal one of our recall sheets."
"We had a mayor supporter come out and steal one of our recall sheets."
Carter says the sheet that was grabbed had five signatures on it. She says she filed a police report online... and says this isn't a joke, and they will not be intimidated into silence.
