A Monday morning crash on Interstate 55 has claimed the life of a Metairie woman and has landed a Mississippi man in jail on a negligent homicide charge.
That crash happened around 10 a.m. Monday on I-55 South about two miles south of Ruddock.
According to Louisiana State Police investigators, Cory Conrad drove onto the right shoulder of the interstate to pass another vehicle when he hit a disabled car driven by Erica Sagona. Sagona was inside her car when the crash happened. She died at the scene.
Conrad suffered only minor injuries.
Troopers say they don't believe impairment was a factor in the crash. However, investigators took toxicology samples for testing. The results of those tests are pending.
Conrad, of Magnolia, Mississippi, is also facing a reckless driving charge.
