With LSU fans on Lane Kiffin watch, it leads to this question: Why would a coach leave a major school where he's having success for another?
Simply put: It's all about the Benjamins.
"The money part and the drive to coach at one school more than another is the biggest part of it," WWL football analyst Mike Detillier said.
WWL football analyst Mike Detillier says coaches have always had leeway to jump around, but he says in the new era of name, image, and likeness deals, players are moving around more frequently. That, he says, lends itself to coaches want to move even more.
"It's sort of a joint venture. Players are moving around. Coaches are moving around," Detillier said. "Now with the players and the part of money to win and win at the highest level is really the drive here."
Detillier says colleges today are more willing to spend any amount to get the coaches and players they think will lead their teams to national championships.
"The part of money to win and win at the highest level is really the driver here," Detillier said. "You have schools that have put a tremendous amount of their resources because football is king, especially in the South. It's the moneymaker for them, and (they're) spending what they have to spend to make it work."
