The National Weather Service says the temperature will be approaching 100 degrees in the New Orleans area Monday, with it feeling hotter than 110.
"A heat advisory is in effect," the NWS posted for the region. "The affected areas include all parishes/counties in southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi."
All or portions of about half of the states in the country are under Extreme Heat Warnings or Heat Advisories.

Forecasters warn there is an elevated risk of heat-related illnesses.
"Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning. Drink plenty of water, even if not thirsty. Check on elderly, ill neighbors, & relatives. Bring pets indoors or provide shade & plenty of water."
