Louisiana today surpassed one million people positive for coronavirus, dating back to the beginning of the pandemic nearly two years ago. The Louisiana Department of Health today reports 1,025,748 total infections.
Dr. Shantel Hebert-Magee with LDH says it has likely been above a million for several days by now.
"We really don't know what that true number is because there are people taking over-the-counter tests so we don't get a report of that data," said Dr. Hebert-Magee.
And with the pandemic now featuring several different variants, regular vaccinations might be something we should get used to.
"This may be something that we have to often do in the future, similar to the flu vaccine, change the cocktail slightly every year in order to insure that the vaccine continues to neutralize the ever-changing virus," she said.
