One of New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell's political critics is reserving comment about her legal troubles.
"As a former public defender, I really do believe these types of things need to play out in court," said City Council President J.P. Morrell.
In a video posted to social media, Morrell said this is a fight the mayor must deal with, and comments coming from the political arena aren't really appropriate.
"I think anyone out there who's kind of giving their opinion on what they think about this from the political sphere; it's really kind of ghoulish," Morrell said.
The councilmember said that while his political relationship with the mayor had turned acrimonious over the past four years, he was one of the first people to endorse Cantrell when she first entered politics, when she ran for city council more than a decade ago.
