Officials are warning residents to expect to see some planes just a few hundred feet above the ground tonight, killing mosquitoes in Jefferson Parish.
"Low-level aerial spraying, in response to mosquito activity, is scheduled to take place over parts of Gretna and Harvey," Public Information Officer Rachel Strassel said in a news release.
It is scheduled to start around 7:00pm.
"Spraying will take place in an area bounded by the Mississippi River, West Bank Expressway, the Harvey Canal/Peters Road, and the Orleans Parish line/Burmaster Street."
Strassel says Vector Disease Control International will use twin-engine aircraft flying about 300 feet off the ground.
"Each aircraft is equipped with an aerial spray guidance system specifically engineered for mosquito control operations. VDCI will be applying a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-approved mosquito control product labeled for use in residential areas municipalities, and agricultural areas."
