Anyone flying out of town today should get to the airport early. Today is one of their busier days as people who came to town for the 4th of July and Essence Festival weekend are now on their way home.
The start of the week is always a busy time for Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
"Sundays and Mondays in general are busy days for outbound traffic and that will be even busier this holiday weekend," said Erin Burns, Deputy Director of Marketing and Communications at MSY.
Burns says around 40,000 passengers will come through the airport.
Some good news is, since the federal government ended its shutdown, the wait to get through security is back to normal.
"We expect TSA's staffing to be normal and appropriate," Burns said, but also cautioned flyers today to get to the airport at least two hours before their flight leaves, just to make sure.
