The staff at Audubon Zoo and Children’s Hospital New Orleans announce the name of the zoo’s baby orangutan.
For the past week, Children’s Hospital staff and young patients voted on their favorite name for the infant, and the winning name is Madu.
Zoo officials say Madu means "honey" in Malay.
"Our patients had so much fun being invited to help name Audubon's baby orangutan," said President and CEO of Children's Hospital New Orleans John R. Nickens IV. "Working together with our partners at Audubon, we love being able to bring enrichment opportunities to our patients at the hospital. This is a great example of finding creative ways to work together to deliver a little something extra for our patients and families. We're so excited to watch the baby grow and thrive for many years to come."
The runner-up names are "Bani" an Indonesian word meaning "children" and "Matahari" a Malay word meaning sun.

Madu was born at the zoo in February as part of the Audubon Institutes endangered orangutan breeding program.
