He was issued an official pardon by Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser last October and now Neuty the Nutria is not just living his best life – he’s a bona fide local celebrity.
And, as such, he is being bestowed the honor that most Louisiana celebrities are gifted: He will be a guest of honor in a Mardi Gras parade.
In Neuty’s case, he’ll be serving as Parade Marshal for the 2024 Krewe of Argus.
Neuty came to fame when he was confiscated by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries after having been taken in by a family and raised as a pet, then spotlighted in lighthearted report on WWL-TV.
Nutria are not allowed to be kept as pets, but after a public outcry, Neuty was given permission to return to his family.
And now he’ll preside over Argus when it rolls through Metairie on Fat Tuesday at 11 am.
