Parish school districts now have a choice in the way they deal with COVID.
Public school students can stay in class even if they have close contact with someone with a positive COVID test.
State School Superintendent Cade Brumley issued the policy change earlier today.
The choice to keep a student in school or make them quarantine at home is now in the hands of the parent.
According to the new rule kids can stay and get a free COVID test if the parent decides so.
Brumley says the previous stance was damaging to a students learning and cites instances where students were sent home numerous times for weeks at a hand.
