The price of gasoline in the New Orleans area is up substantially in the last four weeks, according to GasBuddy.com. How much?
"The average in New Orleans: $3.45. I hate to say it, that's a dollar a gallon more than it was just four weeks ago," said GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan.
DeHaan said that's just gasoline -- diesel prices are even higher, and it's diesel that powers shipping, agriculture, and construction in the U.S., and he says those prices will rise accordingly.
The reason for the increase: DeHaan says it is largely on President Trump's decision to launch a military assault on Iran.
"I'd say, probably about 85 to 90 percent of the increase is attributable to what's happened with the U.S. in Iran," DeHaan said, saying the seasonal increase in the price of gasoline that typically occurs this time of year would only account for ten to fifteen cents per gallon.
