New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has called an investigation into her former bodyguard, Officer Jeffrey Vappie of the New Orleans Police Department, a “witch hunt.”

What does Interim Superintendent Michelle Woodfork of the NOPD think about it? She revealed her thoughts with WWL’s Newell Normand.

“I can’t imagine in my wildest dreams that you believe that this investigation is a witch hunt,” he said.

“It’s an investigation as far as I’m concerned,” Woodfork told Normand. “But, I cannot speak to why… what comments the mayor may have made in reference to this. I can only speak for the men and women of the New Orleans Police Department. They are the priority.”

WWL has reported on the investigation before. Cantrell and Vappie allegedly had a sexual relationship and divorce documents filed by Vappie’s estranged wife seem to indicate their was an affair.

Last month, Normand discussed whether the internal investigation into Vappie was compromised. Normand explained. These included concerns about an information breach.

“Even Seinfeld couldn’t make a funnier episode with all these facts floating around,” former New Orleans Police Department Chief Ronal Serpas said of the investigation.

This week, Woodfork also discussed the federal consent decree that regulated the NOPD and more with Normand. Check out the full conversation here.
