The Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans has announced all flights are canceled Sunday as Hurricane Ida arrives at the Louisiana coast, WDSU reported Saturday.
According to Erin Burns with MSY, there are 36 cancelations to and from MSY as of 11:40 a.m., said the outlet. On FlightAware.com, seven cancellations were reported at the airport from 6:40 a.m. to 6:40 p.m. Saturday.
There were 170 projected cancelations to and from MSY on Sunday, said WDSU Saturday afternoon. Burns said that close to all Louis Armstrong International flights will likely be cancelled tomorrow, when Hurricane Ida is expected to reach land.
The airport confirmed Saturday evening that all Sunday flights are canceled.
However, the airport will stay open and operational. Backup generators in the new terminal should help it stay open.
People at the airport Saturday complained about long lines on social media as New Orleans braced for the hurricane.
