New Orleans announces brake tag late fee amnesty

Drivers with expired New Orleans brake tags can get them up-to-date without paying late fees, the city announced today. Vehicles must be reinspected by December 1, 2022.

"Brake Tag inspections and Brake Tag stickers are indicators that drivers have taken appropriate steps to operate their vehicle safely," said Sarah McLaughlin-Porteous, Acting Director of the Department of Public Works.


Annual inspection stickers cost $25. There are currently eight brake tag stations operating in New Orleans:

Becnel’s Automotive, 1801 Newton St.
Brandt Goodyear, 13311 Chef Menteur Highway
Magic Bubbles Car Wash #3, 1901 Louisiana Ave.
Soft Touch Car Wash, 5270 Canal Blvd.
University Shell, 6201 S. Claiborne Ave.
Big Easy Tire & Lube, 5000 Old Gentilly Road
Delta Fuel, 3300 S. Claiborne Ave.
New Orleans East Tires, 7603 Chef Menteur Highway
