The New Orleans City Council voted in approval of a plan to allow outdoor live entertainment throughout the city.

It is an outgrowth of a program that began during the pandemic as a way to help musicians get gigs when live music could not be allowed indoors, although there had been discussion of the issued even before the pandemic hit, going back to 2019.

New Orleans City Council President Helena Moreno says they believe they approved a way to permit outdoor live music while keeping the people who live around these neighborhood nightspots in mind.

"I think really makes sense and took everyone's needs into account," said Moreno. "So what this does is it creates a predictable, community-driven conditional use process to secure long term access to outdoor live music for specific locations."

The measure passed 6-0.
