The New Orleans Department of Public Works fixed a sidewalk this week... and while that may sound routine, it is NOT.

"This is the first concrete repair made by in house personnel, DPW employees, since Hurricane Katrina. This is the first in 20 years."

Deputy CAO of Infrastructure Stephen Nelson joined Mayor Helena Moreno today to announce plans to accelerate street and sidewalk repairs.

Moreno explained, "Start lessening that work all being handled by contractors, and instead start bringing that type of work in house."

The new mayor also announced, "Creation of an Infrastructure Coordinating Council."

Moreno says it was inspired by the successful efforts last year to accelerate key projects.

"This is going to be similar to what you all saw during Super Bowl."

The mayor announced Michael Hecht will reprise the part he played in that effort.

Hecht told the media, "We are going to begin to see results across the city with Super Bowl level infrastructure relatively soon, and we are going to have the New Orleans that we all deserve. I am really honored to be in this role."
