The Port of New Orleans announced Thursday that it set a new record for cruise passengers in the month of March.
The port says the total number for passengers either getting on or getting off a cruise ship at its terminals last month was greater than 165,000.
"This record momentum solidifies Port NOLA's position as the 6th largest U.S. cruise port, offering travelers a unique blend of ocean and river cruising experiences," said PortNOLA President and CEO Beth Branch.
According to port officials, New Orleans is the only port in the U.S. that offers both sea and river cruises.
The March numbers build on the momentum set in 2024 when the port logged a record 1.2 million cruise passenger movements for the year.
The port's successful 2024 also saw continued commitment from the cruise industry. Carnival finalized a five-year agreement to keep the Valor and Liberty sailing from New Orleans year-round. Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas returned and the Mariner of the Seas will begin cruises from New Orleans in 2026. Norwegian Cruise Line is in the midst of a five year agreement to offer trips on the Norwegian Getaway, and will be bringing the Norwegian Escape to the port later this year.
PortNOLA also homeports six river cruises from American and Viking cruise lines.
"We’re also seeing more port calls at Port NOLA with vessels that come to New Orleans for cruise guests to enjoy the city and its many attractions," said Steven Gauthier, PortNOLA's Director of Cruise. "That's a testament to our unique way of life in this special city we call home. We look forward to welcoming even more cruise guests in 2025 and showing them that one-of-a-kind Big Easy hospitality."
