The New Orleans District Attorney's Office and federal ATF announced Wednesday that it has shut down a tire shop in Treme it says was a hot spot for criminal activity.
"Shooting after shooting, armed robbery, drug deals, assaults, this place was running the gambit," said New Orleans D.A. Jason Williams.
The 24-Hour Auto and Tire Repair shop in the 1200 block of N. Claiborne Ave. was the source of neighbor complaints for year, the D.A. said.
The night manager of the shop was shot and killed in 2022. Williams said in 2019, an employee pulled a gun on his boss.
Authorities say undercover investigators bought drugs on the premises.
"The data showed that it was one of the riskiest places in New Orleans.," said Daniel Shanks, the director of the D.A.'s office of Data-Informed Community Engagement. "When we looked at the actual crimes that were occurring within this corridor, we found that over 46% of the incidents were coming from the 1200 block of N. Claiborne."
