New Orleans has been buzzing with visitors for the last five months, from the massive crowds drawn by Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour to the excitement of the Super Bowl.
But as the city gears up for Mardi Gras, will that momentum carry over if tourists have already had their fill?
Walt Leger, President and CEO of New Orleans and Company, says if you're going by the numbers, it should still be elbow-to-elbow on the parade route.
"From a hotel occupancy standpoint, we are up from this time last year," Leger said. "So, it's shaping up to be a great Mardi Gras."
There has been a consistent spotlight on the city for several months now, even when tragedy struck on January 1. However, Leger says additional local, state, and federal security resources have helped ease anxiety around these big events.
"The resources and increased law enforcement presence has been pivotal," Leger said.
Leger says NBC's Today will run a special segment on Lundi Gras traditions and broadcast live from the route on Fat Tuesday.
