New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson and Gov. Jeff Landry's meeting with NFL officials in New York appear to have borne fruit.
Our partners at NOLA.com report the league is inviting New Orleans to make a bid for Super Bowl LXV in 2031.
New Orleans missed a deadline last year to make a bid, because a new lease for the Saints to play in the Superdome beyond 2030 hadn't been finalized.
This will allow the Crescent City compete for a record twelfth Super Bowl.
There is no guarantee that NFL owners will award the game to New Orleans. New stadiums in Denver, Cleveland, Jacksonville, and Washington, DC may also be potential host sites by then.
The league is expected to vote on a host city for 2031 later this year.
Conflicts with Mardi Gras make 2038 the next viable Super Bowl under the current NFL schedule.
