The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office says it has arrested an employee on charges of conspiring to bring drugs into the jail.
Iyanna Carter, 24, is accused of conspiring with 31-year-old Henry Sims to smuggle in the contraband.
The sheriff's office says two inmates suffered an overdose as a result.
Officials say those inmates had to be given multiple doses of Narcan. They survived and after evaluation at a local hospital, were returned to OPSO custody.
"This arrest sends a clear message: we will not tolerate anyone, inside or outside our organization, who jeopardizes the safety and security of this facility," said Sheriff Susan Hutson. "We are committed to accountability at every level and to protecting both our residents and our staff."
The sheriff's office says it fired Carter and booked her on two counts each of introducing a controlled substance to a correctional facility, malfeasance in office, and criminal conspiracy.
