
Transportation assistance is now available through the city of New Orleans for residents who want to leave for a shelter in Northern Louisiana or in a neighboring state.

This assistance program kicked off Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and it will continue operate daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In order to connect with a bus taking passengers out of the city, those interested should go to one of the 12 RTA pickup locations around New Orleans during the operating hours:
· Treme Recreation Center (900 N. Villere St.)
· Cut Off Recreation Center (6600 Belgrade St.)
· Gernon Brown Recreation Center (1001 Harrison Ave.)
· Milne Recreation Center (5420 Franklin Ave.)
· Stallings St. Claude Recreation Center (4300 St.
Claude.)
· John P. Lyons Recreation Center (624 Louisiana Ave.)
· Joe W. Brown Recreation Center (5601 Read Blvd.)
· Rosenwald Recreation Center (1120 S. Broad Ave.)
· Central City Senior Center (2101 Phillip St.)
· Engine 4 Fire House (6900 Downman Rd.)
· Arthur Monday Rec Center (1111 Newton St.)
· Level Up Campaign (1123 Lamanche St.)
Both Lyft and Uber are providing free rides to these pickup locations. Use Uber code IDARELIEF2021 or Lyft code IDARELIEF21 to get a free ride.
Busses from the 12 RTA locations will bring passengers to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, where they will need to register. From there, they can board a coach bus to a state shelter.
People heading to the shelters via New Orleans transportation assistance should bring: one carry-on-sized bag per person, plus essential family items like a diaper bag. Wheelchairs, oxygen tanks, and any other assistive devices. Pets should be in a carrier or on a leash.
