Cops say gunfire rang out on Poydras Street Sunday evening about three blocks from the river.
"NOPD is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 300 block of Poydras Street," according to the Public Affairs Division.
Officials say one juvenile was hit.
"Initial reports show a male was shot at least one time to his body."
Paramedics were taking the victim to the ER.
"EMS is on scene preparing to transport him to the hospital for treatment."
Officers were questioning some individuals at the scene.
"NOPD has detained three unknown persons in connection with this shooting."
It happened just before 5:30pm.
Police later sent a statement saying the shooting appeared accidental.
"The signal in this incident has been changed from a shooting to a negligent injury. The victim is a juvenile male. There is no further information or details available."
