Friday started with gunfire near the I-10 and Esplanade in New Orleans.
"New Orleans Police are investigating a shooting incident," Sgt. Barry Fletcher told the media. "Officers responded to the 1500 block Kerlerec Street shortly after 5:10 a.m."
He says they got there to find a woman was shot.
"Officers found an adult female victim suffering from a gunshot wound."
New Orleans EMS took her to the hospital.
Fletcher says cops detained a man.
"The adult male suspect was located near the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Elysian Fields Avenue and is currently in custody."
