The hunt is on for a driver that ran over a woman and drove away.
"The NOPD is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred in the 3100 block of Elysian Fields Avenue," Senior Public Information Officer Aaron Looney said in an email.
It happened around 2:15am.
"Initial reports show one victim in this incident... was pronounced deceased on scene."
Witnesses say the driver and woman killed were arguing in a parking lot before the incident.
NOPD says it stemmed from the driver allegedly stealing items the victim had placed on top of her car.
"Through further investigation, it was learned that the victim was at the location and had reportedly purchased several items before an unknown white female allegedly took the victims items from the exterior of the victim’s vehicle. The victim then reportedly confronted the suspect, who was inside of her vehicle, and demanded her property. The suspect then allegedly struck the victim with her vehicle – identified as a blue sedan with a spare tire on the front passenger side – before fleeing the scene."
