
In a study meant to determine which major cities have the biggest homicide problems, the Crescent City ranks among the top 10 in the nation.
The analysis conducted by WalletHub looked at a variety of metrics to compile the list, using numbers from the second quarter of 2023 (April through June). Homicide cases per capita, change in homicide cases per capita year over year and change in homicide cases per capita over the last two years.
When all the numbers were combined, New Orleans ranked 9th in the nation.
Three cities at the more northerly parts of the “south” ranked at the top of the list with Memphis, Tenn., taking the dubious #1 spot.
Two Missouri cities – St. Louis and Kansas City – came in at #2 and #3, respectively.
Washington, D.C., and Detroit, Mich., rounded out the top five.
The rest of the top 10: Richmond, Va., at #6; St. Petersburg, Fla., at #7; Chicago, Ill., at #8; New Orleans at #9 and Oklahoma City, Okla., at #10.
