A hearing in New Orleans City Hall today seeks answers from the Sewerage & Water Board about how they lost power during Tropical Storm Arthur's downpours earlier this month, when a new Entergy substation dedicated to powering the city's water system went down.
The $300 million power complex at the Sewerage & Water Board failed to keep pumps running during the downpours that flooded streets a couple of weeks ago.
Sewerage and Water Board said voltage fluctuations caused their equipment to trip offline. Entergy says everything was normal on their end.
"Whatever the issue is, I want it repaired," said New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno. "I want it fixed so that should something else happen down the road as far as sever weather goes, that we don't have this issue again."
Council member Aimee McCarron said they have a lot of questions.
"We're going to need a full rundown from Sewerage and Water Board on what exactly happened and how we can make sure that doesn't happen again," McCarron said.
Entergy officials will also be at the hearing, set for 10 a.m. at New Orleans City Hall.
